Matcha at the Office: Incorporating Matcha into Your Workday
Partager
You don't need to transport a tea ceremony to the office. A few minutes and minimal equipment are enough to enjoy matcha wherever you work.
The minimal office kit
- One sachet of matcha (30g = approx. 15 bowls)
- A small electric whisk (milk frother) or a shaker
- A mug or glass
- A mini sieve
That's all. No chasen needed, no ceramic bowl needed. The quality of the drink will be slightly different from a traditional preparation, but the effects on concentration are identical.
Quick preparation: the shaker method
If you don't have a frother: sift 2g of matcha into a small beverage shaker. Add 80ml of hot water (not boiling) and 1-2 ice cubes if available. Close and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Pour into your mug.
The foam will be less fine than with a chasen, but the taste and effects are there.
Office tip: Prepare a concentrated matcha base (2g in 30ml) in the morning at home, in a small airtight bottle. At the office, pour over cold water or milk with ice cubes. Immediate result, no equipment needed.
When to drink your matcha at the office
- 9:30-10:00 AM: ideal for an intense morning of work
- 1:30-2:00 PM: to avoid the afternoon slump without disturbing sleep
- Not after 3:00 PM: caffeine can interfere with falling asleep
Matcha vs. machine coffee
Office machine coffee: quick, familiar, but often of poor quality and generates an energy spike-crash that is not conducive to sustained concentration.
Matcha at the office: two extra minutes to prepare, but more stable energy for 4-6 hours, without nervousness or an afternoon crash. For intense cognitive workdays, the exchange is well worth the effort.
Frequently asked questions
Can you prepare cold matcha at the office without a refrigerator?
Yes — bring your pre-dissolved matcha base in a thermos and add ice cubes from the dispenser. Or simply drink the matcha at room temperature if no cold option is available.
